Literally the best Xbox Series X deal ever: Just $349 while supplies last (save $211)
It's the Diablo IV bundle, and even I couldn't pass it up. PLUS: A Canon multifunction printer for $59, a Roku TV for $200, and more!

I’m putting this right up top because it won’t last much longer — indeed, I’m amazed it’s still available, having first appeared on Friday, sold out, then come back in stock.
The Xbox Series X - Diablo IV Bundle is down to $349 at Walmart, by far the best deal ever on this coveted game console. The console alone normally sells for $500; this bundle is normally $560.
(UPDATE: Gah! While I was writing this, the price jumped up again. Hopefully the deal will return; in the meantime, as of this very second, you can still get just the Xbox Series X (no bundle) for $349, still an excellent deal.)
It comes with only one controller, but if you have an Xbox One, you should be able to use those controllers as well.
Although I’ve owned 4K TVs for many years, I’ve never tried a current-gen console to see gaming in all its 4K glory. So I pulled the trigger on this; now I just need to find some games that really show off the Series X’s horsepower. Suggestions? Leave a comment:
QUICK HITS
📺 Missed out on Black Friday TV deals? Fear not: Best Buy once again has the Roku Select Series 50-inch 4K Smart TV for $200, which is $100 off the regular price and a tie for the all-time low. I reviewed one of Roku’s other TVs and it’s very good; I think this would make a great addition to a den, bedroom, or other smallish space. And while you’re at it…
🔊 Speaking of Roku, there’s a stellar deal on one of my favorite products: The Roku Streambar & Wireless Bass for $150, the lowest price on record. (Reg. $250.) You can use this with any TV; it’s not only a quality soundbar and subwoofer, but also a premium Roku streamer. I use the larger Streambar Pro along with Roku’s subwoofer and wireless rear speakers; absolutely love the setup.
🖨️ Need a new printer? Amazon has the Canon Pixma TR4720 multifunction for $59, which also ties the all-time low. It’s normally $99. It can print, scan, copy, and fax, and it comes with an auto-document feeder (rare at this price point). Just be prepared to replace the “starter” ink cartridges fairly soon. Thankfully, new ones are reasonably cheap (about $30/set).
PLAYLIST
I’m still plowing through my rewatch of The Shield, which is even better than I remember and probably a candidate for my top-10 TV series of all time. But as I noted previously, it’s grim, gritty, bloody, and often unsettling. Normally I shy away from that kind of thing, but the writing and acting are so superb, I can’t help myself.
Thankfully, I’ve found plenty of palate cleansers:
City Lights (Max/Criterion): Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush gets all the attention, but this is the better film by far. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but if you want a movie that’s not only family friendly but also laugh-out-loud funny, look no further. (Fellow Michiganders! It’s playing at the Detroit Film Theater for free on Dec. 29!) Rick’s Rating: A+
Connections Forget Wordle; this is the hot new word game, and for now it’s free to play. You’re given 16 words; you have to find the connective tissue between four groups of four. Not sure I’ll enjoy any Xbox game as much as I do this one. 😜 (Oh, and if you want to play all the previous puzzles, go here.) Rick’s Rating: A+
The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut: How did I get through high school and college — as an English major, no less — without reading any Vonnegut? No idea, so I decided to remedy that. The Sirens of Titan is a weird book, a sci-fi satire that probably seemed revolutionary in 1959. And I often found myself thinking of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; surely Douglas Adams drew some inspiration here? Anyway, I finished it, but can’t say I recommend it. Rick’s Rating: C+
Defending My Life (Max): I’m not what you would call an Albert Brooks mega-fan, but I adored him in Broadcast News and several episodes of The Simpsons. This new documentary, which shoehorns clips and interviews into a dinner with Brooks and director Rob Reiner, was funnier and more interesting than I expected. Perfect watch for a lazy Sunday afternoon. (Warning: There’s one brief clip of Brooks’ turn as a villain in the movie Driver, and it’s really disturbing.) Rick’s Rating: A-
Hijack (Apple TV+): Can someone explain all the fuss over Idris Elba? To me he has all the charisma of a dish towel, and about as much range. That said, Hijack is an engaging thriller that, despite a couple irksome plot holes, I enjoyed. Maybe I’m being too tough on Elba; if I wanted an over-the-top hijack movie, there’s always Air Force One. He just seems so passive at times, it’s almost like he doesn’t want to be on that plane! Rick’s Rating: B

I've never seen Hijack but Idris is id excellent in Luther. If you haven't seen it I'd highly recommend it. It's also free on Tubi which is perfect for the Cheapskate 😉
Thanks for the heads up about Connections! Gave it a look and might be addicted already. Wanted to second The Wire recommendation. Appreciate the heads up about the Albert Brooks movie as I am definitely planning on watching it. I own Defending Your Life and re-watch it somewhat regularly.
