How to watch the Super Bowl (in 4K!) absolutely free
The service that's going to stream the game is... [checks notes]... Tubi?! PLUS: Save $60 on my favorite video doorbell.

Well, rats; my midweek attempt to snag you a Godzilla deal backfired. No sooner had I sent the newsletter than it sold out. [Cue frustrated Godzilla shriek.] But such things are beyond my control. If I see it come around again, I’ll notify you again.
(This much “ink” devoted to the subject begs the question: Is Rick obsessed with radio-controlled atomic-breath Godzilla? Answer: yes, yes he is. Strongly considering newsletter spin-off: Godzilla Secrets.)
The Super Bowl is streaming in 4K this year, and you can watch it absolutely free
Super Bowl LIX is about two weeks away, which may leave some people — especially cord-cutters — scrambling to figure out how to watch it. (Me, no; now that the Lions are out, football is dead to me. Dead!)
Good news: You can watch the Super Bowl for free — in 4K, no less — on Tubi.
Wait, Tubi?! The free streaming service that’s home to mostly D-grade movies? Yep: that one. The only catch is that you’ll need to be signed into your account, which means you’ll need to create an account. One more password to keep track of, but otherwise a pretty harmless catch.
Oh, and you’ll need to install the Tubi app on your TV, if it’s not already there. A little advance prep will save you some last-minute scrambling on game day.
And while you’re poking around the service, there are actually some decent movies and TV shows available right now (all with commercials, because that’s how Tubi is free):
2001: A Space Odyssey (confession: never saw it)
Killing Eve S1
Limitless
Prey
The Cabin in the Woods
The Founder
The Illusionist
Train to Busan (zombies!)
All the Twilight movies
Uncut Gems (hard watch, but riveting)
Hey, I said decent, not “new” or “Oscar-caliber”. And a lot of these are available elsewhere. Honestly, Tubi has long been the laughingstock of the streaming world; that it’s serving up the Super Bowl is kind of a shocker. Not complaining, just saying.
My favorite video doorbell has no monthly fees, dual cameras, and a hefty discount right now (save $60)
When you think of video doorbells, you probably think of Ring. They’re fine, but there’s one I like a lot better — and it’s on sale right now.
For a limited time, and while supplies last, the Eufy Security Video Doorbell E340 can be yours for $119.99. That’s $60 off the regular price and a tie for the lowest price on record.
I’ve owned one of these for the better part of a year, and for the most part I really like it. For starters, no monthly fees: The E340 stores video locally (meaning on the device itself), so you don’t have to pay for cloud storage. Nor do you have to subscribe to anything in order to enjoy features like package- and person-detection.
Ring charges for both; a minimum of $5 monthly. That’s $60 annually you’ll save by choosing this instead.
The doorbell can run on existing wiring or an included rechargeable battery. (My setup uses the former.) It has dual cameras; the top one faces out so you can see who’s approaching, the bottom one down so you can see if there’s a package by your door.
I strongly dislike doorbells that use a heavy fisheye lens to try to accomplish the same thing. There’s a bit of fisheye in the Eufy’s upper camera, but it’s barely noticeable.
You can link the E340 to Amazon Alexa-powered devices in your home and they’ll alert you when someone’s at the door — a nifty doorbell-chime alternative.
Pair it with one of Eufy’s smart door locks and it can automatically unlock the door when it sees a “familiar face”.
In other words, this isn’t some cheap, feature-limited doorbell; it does all the things, and very well at that.

📘 I learned of Entitlement, by Rumaan Alam, from Read More Books, a newsletter I really enjoy. And I’m grateful, because I absolutely loved it. I don’t want to say too much; indeed, I recommend you follow my lead and simply grab the sample chapter and start reading. I’ll just note that it’s about money; what it does to people, what a person “deserves” in life, that kind of thing. And all from a perspective that is almost certainly not your own. (In a weird way this is a perfect companion to James, by Percival Everett, one of my favorite books of 2024. Then vs. now.) Rick’s rating: A- (Subtracted half a point because I don’t think the author stuck the landing.)
